The National Association of Realtors recently released its 2013 Profile of Buyers’ Home Feature Preferences. This survey asked home buyers within the last two years what features they preferred when buying a home. The survey also took into consideration factors such as age of the buyer, region, and composition of household. Some results were obvious. For instance southern buyers preferred homes with central air conditioning. In the northeast people preferred homes with basements, dining rooms and hardwood floors. The top overall preferences were central air conditioning, walk-in closet in the master bedroom, a cable/satellite/internet ready house, and an en-suite master bathroom. This survey also showed that the kitchen was the room that was remodeled most after the purchase of a home suggesting that sellers should do minimal upgrades and renovations on their kitchen before listing since buyers are willing to spend the money to make it their own.
