Three Sisters Lighthouses

Courtesy of National Parks Service

The Three Sisters are a series of lighthouses located in Eastham, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. The lighthouses, which were built in 1838, were named for the three daughters of the local lighthouse keeper, who lived in the keeper’s house that still stands near the lights.

The Three Sisters served as a crucial aid to navigation for mariners on their way to and from Boston and other nearby ports, and they played an important role in the growth and development of the shipping industry in the area. Over the years, the lighthouses have undergone many changes and renovations, but they remain a beloved and iconic part of the Eastham community.

In recent years, the Three Sisters have become a popular tourist attraction, drawing thousands of visitors each year to admire their beauty and learn about their rich history. The lighthouses are open to the public, and visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. They are also part of the Cape Cod National Seashore, which was established by Congress in 1961 to protect and preserve the natural beauty of the Cape Cod region.

Happy Winter Solstice 2022

When Is the Winter Solstice?

The first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, including Cape Cod, is marked by the winter solstice, which occurs on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 4:48 P.M. EST. The winter solstice occurs when either of Earth’s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. It is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year. Since prehistory, the winter solstice has been a significant time of year in many cultures and has been marked by festivals and rituals. It marked the symbolic death and rebirth of the Sun; the gradual waning of daylight hours is reversed and begins to grow again. Some ancient monuments such as Newgrange, Stonehenge, and Cahokia Woodhenge are aligned with the sunrise or sunset on the winter solstice.

Short Term Rental Tax Information

Short Term Rental Tax Information

On December 28, 2018, Governor Baker signed into law a bill regulating and taxing short-term rentals of homes and condos. A short-term rental is defined as a rental period of 31 days or less. Annual and long-term (32 days or more) are excluded from this tax. We are currently working on updating the language and charges in our leases and on our website in order to be in compliance with this new law. However, many aspects are still undetermined and may change in the next six months. In order to help you understand this new law and to help you comply with the new regulations we have compiled a list of questions about the new regulations and taxes on a page dedicated to this.

For more in depth information please visit our page: Massachusetts Short Term Rental Tax Information

If you would like to read the new bill in its entirety, Session Law – Acts of 2018 Chapter 337.

We will continue to update you as we learn more and receive guidance from the Towns, Commonwealth, and Department of Revenue, but in the meantime please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Sincerely,

The Hopper Real Estate / Outer Cape Team
